Yeah, I've always thought that the water is the main reason why the paella tastes different here than in other places, if we talk about it having the same ingredients (as I mentioned, in some places they add peppers, chops, etc., which are not in the original recipe).

As for places to buy a property around Valencia or Alicante, my best advice would be to visit those places as a tourist and try to spend some time on those places you like the most and later decide. Obviously, I'm not very objective as I'm in love with my home city, but there are other nice cities in the Mediterranean coast I'm sure you would like as well.

By the way, where are you from? In your profile header it says that you live in Damascus but reading your profile description makes me doubt...

I'm not sure what do you mean when you say what's special about the Valencian paella. Although you can eat "paella" in nearly every city in Spain, it is originally from Valencia. In other parts of Spain the tend to use other ingredients and also call it paella but the original recipe is from Valencia. Even if they use the same recipe, it could taste different because the don't use the same water (here the water has a quite big quantity of lime dissolved), the same rice, etc.

About properties, you are right. Benidorm, as Valencia, is a very popular holidays destination, though very different... Basically, Benidorm is very popular between young Britons looking for a place to drink and crazy party at low cost while Valencia is very different: young people, not so young, families, interested in sightseeing, restaurants,, culture, with a bigger budget than those who go to Benidorm, etc.

So it would depend on your investment preferences: a cheap apartment with IKEA furniture in Benidorm to rent for to Britons for few money and a very short period that goes there to party, or a more expensive one with better furniture in Valencia to rent to other type of customers.

Hope it helps you a bit.
