I've read that your friends think it is weird to travel alone but I understand you: I noticed that by travelling somewhere alone, I tend to speak more easily to others and discover more things than if I was with friends. I did not travel a lot in my life, but I have spent one year abroad (in the United Kingdom) so I got to visit some cities.
As I spent a year in an English-speaking country, I can help you improve your English (although I think it is very good already) :-)
